No Dutton Easter opening

Published: Wednesday, 27 February 2013

THOUGH Canal & River Trust promised the breach at Dutton on the Trent & Mersey Canal would be open for the busy Easter period, it will not.

The revised target we are told is now 'the end of May', with the cost having risen from an estimated £1.5m to the latest figure of £2.1m.

Open week-end

CaRT have announced that the open weekend on the 23rd and 24th of February to view the breach at Dutton Hollow near Preston Brook raised £600, writes Allan Richards.

This sum brings the amount raised by public donation to about £21,000, just 1% of the £2.1 millions needed for the repair. Figures were not given regarding attendance over the weekend.

Embarrassment

It is thought that the appeal for public donations will be kept open until the repair is completed in May, but not be given prominence due to the embarrassment of the small amount raised compared to the target.
