Trust requests HS2 meeting

THE Chesterfield Canal Trust has requested a meeting with HS2 rail officials on its impact on the canal restoration.

Discussions have been taking place with various local authorities, so the Trust wants similar discussions over the route of the Birmingham to Leeds link that cuts across the restoration in various places, Alan Tilbury reveals.

As reported in narrowboatworld—HS2 affects restoration—the proposed route intersects the restoration in five places as well as being yards from its new basin at Staveley.

In jeopardy

As it puts the whole restoration in jeopardy, members of the Trust feels it essential that a meeting should quickly take place.

There are claims that the proposed route was drawn up using out-of-date maps, that fail to show the restored sections of the waterway.
