Fish out at Bath Flight

Published: Thursday, 21 February 2013

WORK on locks at Bath Flight on the Kennet & Avon Canal means that all the fish have had to be removed before it could start.

The flight includes one of the deepest locks on the system, that was created when a by-pass was built meaning that the two original locks had to be made into one.

Stunned

With very short pounds, it was easier to complete the work by draining them, hence the fish having to be removed beforehand. They are stunned by electric pulses, netted and then removed further back up the canal.

Work is being undertaken, in one form or another on locks seven to 13 on the flight, with work hoping to be completed by the end of March in time for the new boating season.
