Start at Wheelock

THERE is a message from boaters for Canal & River Trust, that if it wants to get rid of continuous moorers it should start with those who have been moored at the water point at Wheelock for weeks.

So remarks Trevor Minshull, who  tells us there have been boats moored at Minshull water point at 'Heartbreak Hill' on the Trent & Mersey Canal for many weeks, suggesting they are 'waiting for the canal to freeze'. (The photograph shows the moorings in summer.)

Favourite spot

Regular contributor Jim Cracken, points out that this water point is a 'favourite spot for continuous moorers, with its handy facilities and ample parking', but that nothing is ever done about them, and sometimes visiting nearby takes his dogs along the towpath seeing the same boats week after week, and wonders 'if they have an arrangement with whoever is in charge of moving them on'.

Helen Spinkwater however believes that now that the Inland Waterways Association has at last taken interest, it being part of CaRT, something may at last be done.
