George's is saved

THE small shop on the Audlem Flight shop threatened with closure by Canal & River Trust will now continue to trade next year, writes Allan Richards.

Georges Pork and Poultry trading at Audlem Bottom Lock on the Shropshire Union Canal faced closure when CaRT threatened to terminate Danny George's agreement in September this year (Saving George's 5/12/2012).

Meeting

However, a 500 strong petition started by boater and CaRT volunteer, Alison Tuck, has resulted in a breakthrough meeting between the small trader and the Trust.

Alison, who attended the meeting tells us:

"All the issues were discussed and a plan to move forward has been agreed. Further meetings are required. But I am left in no doubt Georges Pork and Poultry will be trading in the new year.

"I just want to say a thank you to everyone who signed the petition because without you George's would have stopped trading."
