Developers grab Ashby restortion

EVEN though not yet restored, the terminus of the Ashby Canal has been grabbed by the developers with an estimated 400 houses being constructed around the future Measham Wharf.

The restoration however requires Measham High Street to be crossed, with the latest plan being an aqueduct to link the terminus at Measham Wharf, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Very little done

Very little has been done to further the restoration over the past few months, but members of the Ashby Canal Trust, believed this development will give it the required impetus.

There is already funding in place of  £1.75 million from UK Coal, as part of its application to opencast in the area, and it is hoped that with further funding bids being successful the entire waterway to Measham could be completed within the next few years.
