Concentrate wills and minds

Mike Guest, the new Chairman of the Cotswold Canals Trust, states that his appointment will formulate a strategic plan that will concentrate wills and minds to achieve the goals of the Trust.

Mike has spent over 30 years working in the banking industry, initially specialising in corporate and commercial lending and then in running the business planning unit of the UK subsidiary and then worldwide of a large international banking group.

Leading the development

Within the Trust Council , Mike has been the Development Director for the Eastern section, leading the development of the strategy, restoration plan and funding plan for the reinstatement of the canal from Inglesham through to the Water Park (Phase 2), thus bringing us nearer to the ultimate goal of having navigation from the Thames to the Severn.

He is a Parish Councillor, Governor of the local primary school, a Corporation Board member of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College and Finance Director of the Company of Proprietors of Stroudwater Navigation.

Mark Horton

Television personality Mark Horton accepts the Vice-Presidency, and the members hope this will raise the profile of the restoration.

Mark has presented and contributed to numerous television archaeology programmes, from the BBC Two series Time Flyers and the BBC Scotland documentary on the Darien Disaster which was awarded the Archaeological Programme of the Year in 2004. He was also involved in the early days of Time Team and has contributed to many archaeology programmes on the Discovery and History Channels.
