Still more marinas

THOUGH there are plans for a 600 berths marina at Onley, just above Braunston on the Oxford Canal, another is planned for Hawkesbury Junction.

This is for a 225 berth marina on derelict land at Aldermans Green, formerly a power station, near Hawkesbury Junction on the Oxford, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Could be passed

The plans could be passed, as they also include new homes and a conservation area—that would influence a planning committee.

It is stated that the proposed marina would be 'linked to the Oxford Canal', giving yet more berths on the waterway.

CART involved

The owners of the site have taken advice from Canal & River Trust with the design of the marina, and there have been meetings with local residents, who it is stated have given full support as it would 'help solve the problems of crime and disorder on the site and the canal towpath'.

The initial responses to the council from people living near the site have been supportive as it will regenerate the waste land as well as bring in much needed jobs.

The marina plans include a chandlery and boatyard together with a restaurant.
