Blaming contractors and redundancy

Published: Sunday, 23 September 2012

I agree with Bob Hallam's comments that Central Shires areas, i.e. Trent & Mersey and Coventry canals in particular, suffer from lack of vegetation control—both sides of the canal, writes Dave Carden.

I have complained as such to the relevant offices. The response received was to be told that the contractors have not done their job right, and due to one of the canal inspectors being made redundant. No-one had checked to see if the contract had in fact been carried out. Still awaiting further update!

Doesn't agree

Sorry Bob, I cannot agree with you about South East Waterways. The North Oxford, South Oxford, a fair amount of the Grand Union Main Line and the Leicester Summit especially between North Kilworth and Watford Gap are a disgrace! In places there is no room to pass, which I also reported to the relevant offices several times.

Photograph above shows example of such decay attached—spot the towpath side!

Preserving a rat!

The latest excuse for not cutting back the vegetation is to protect the Water Vole! Health & Safety is obviously thrown out the window when it comes to preserving a rat! Again still awaiting a further update.
