Works starts on Cropredy Marina

WORK has now started on the construction of Cropredy Marina, that was approved earlier this year by Cherwell District Council.

It is situated on the southern Oxford Canal to the North of the village, with Greenford Ltd appointed to carry out the work, and it is stated the marina's northern basin, including all services, will be fully operational and ready to receive boats by 1st April 2013.

Affordable price

We are told the new marina will offer quality services at an affordable price, in tranquil, landscaped surroundings, five miles from Banbury, within walking distance of the village of Cropredy, with its well-stocked general store, two popular pubs, a medical centre, and many other amenities.

Marina services will include full-length jetties, low-level lighting, metered mains electricity, free water and wi-fi, car parking, CCTV security which can be monitored over the internet, free loan bicycles, waste and Elsan disposal, recycling bins, laundry facilities, toilets, and a book and DVD lending library.

Self service

The marina will also have a service wharf, which will be open all day every day in season, to supply both moorers and passing boaters with diesel, gas, solid fuels and pump-out. A slipway is being constructed for surveys and hull blacking.

Tim Langer, owner of the new marina, who has developed Crick Marina related:

"My marina at Crick works very well because of its fantastic location, affordable prices, and friendly personal service.  I am confident that by offering the same winning formula at Cropredy we will achieve the same success and popularity.

"In light of the current economic situation, prices have been set at very affordable levels for such an attractive and accessible location. It will be the closest full-service off-line canal marina to the upper River Thames, where mooring fees can be two or three times as expensive."

Opposition

Planning permission has been given for two marinas at Cropredy, that roused a great deal of opposition, especially with one being close to a school.  Permission was not given however for residential use.

Two open days are planned for the new marina, on the 30th September and 14th October, between 11am and 3pm.
