Email: Ignore the rules

Published: Wednesday, 12 September 2012

In reply to Simon Grindrod's email I would like to ask when it became okay to ignore the rules on the grounds that you can’t afford to comply with them?

This growing band of people who buy a boat to live on without a thought to where it is going to be moored, then just moor up anywhere that suits them, be it water point, 24 hour mooring, or somewhere less contentious. Is he saying it’s alright to ignore the rules when it suits him, as long as it’s only the 'little' ones?

Surely if you’re going to buy a boat to live on you should consider where you’re going to moor legally before you buy; you wouldn’t buy a big house at the top end of your budget and then tell the local council you’re not going to pay the council tax because you can’t afford it!

People need to realise a boat is not a cheap place to live legally.

I see Simon has grasped the nettle and admitted he cannot afford to moor/live in London, perhaps it’s time a few more Continuous Moorers see the light and get a legal mooring where they can afford it—or look for an alternative life style.
