Stuck narrowboat moved

THE narrowboat that was wedged against a bridge on the flooded Rochdale Canal at Hebden Bridge has been moved.

A crane was brought in as the boat had been wedged tight against the bridge, and was unable to move under its own power, Alan Tilbury reveals.

This was caused when a month's rain fell in 24 hours, with parts of the Rochdale Canal well under water, and boats stranded along its banks

The 58ft boat was lifted after divers inserted slings under its hull, then it was turned in the direction of the waterway, that had subsided, and moved to a safe mooring.

The problem was that is was completely blocking the canal, wedged across the bridge, stopping boats using the waterway, that has now returned to its normal level.
