Grand Union summit puzzle

BOATERS just cannot understand why the summit pound of the Grand Union Canal at Tring still has its lock gates padlocked, as there is now too much water.

There were boaters wanting an early start queuing yesterday, Sunday, at the locks until after 9am when the chains were taken off, being halted the day before, yet the reservoirs are brim full, with the picture taken yesterday of the overflow at Wilstone Reservoir.

Overflows on lawns

The reservoir overflows over properties in Drayton Beauchamp, and the natives get a little rattled if the relief stream overflows onto their lawns and gardens, and there is now a strong possibility of this.

The other water supply to the summit is by the pumps at Little Tring, but these are working, though one of the three was out out of action for a while, but is now repaired.  The picture is of the water being pumped into the already full summit pound.

Why are boaters still being restricted? The restrictions can and should be lifted without any further delay.
