Boost for Chesterfield Waterside development

THE proposed Chesterfield Waterside development has received a boost in the form of £2.4m funding from the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Board.

The ambitious plans for the site include the new canal basin, that has already been constructed, public spaces; an eco park, around 1200 homes,  shops, bars, cafés, hotel and a gallery.  The illustration is of course an artists impression.

East of the town

This will be along the Chesterfield Canal and Rother on the East of the town alongside the dual carriageway of the A61.

We are told it will 'provide the necessary investment to complete the canal link, but no details are given of how the waterway from Staveley through Eckington and under the M1 motorway will be financed.  The Chesterfield Canal from the town to Staveley has been restored, with a basin at both ends.
