Low loaders to get to Jubilee

ONE narrowboat at least will overcome the closures and get to take part in the Queen's Jubilee procession on the Thames, by using a low loader.

Of the 40 narrowboats invited to take part in the river procession, many owners in the North will be thwarted by the strict restrictions and closures of the waterways, preventing them reaching the Thames.

Sea cadets

But the narrowboat Pied Piper, belonging to the Northampton Sea Cadets will make it, even though it is unable to reach the Grand Union Canal, for it will be taken on a low loader, Richard Hall tells us.

With the Northampton Flight closed, the cadets are unable to get their boat to the Grand Union, which itself is subject to very strict restrictions, so the decision as been made to transport it to the Thames by low loader.

Will not happen

District Officer of Northampton Cadets, Chris Read, explained:

"We wanted the cadets to spend a week working the boat down to London but that will not happen."

The cadets have been promised the loan of a low loader from a local haulage firm,  but they now have to get the services of a crane to load the boat.
