Private company to collect mooring fees

BATH and North East Somerset Council, having problems collecting mooring fees from boats on the Avon, have plans to put the collecting into the hands of a private company.

The new company,  Riverside Leisure Management, is to take over the collection of mooring fees from boats moored along the banks of the river.

Benefits

There are a few problems yet to be solved, but the council maintains it wants to 'test the market to find out the benefits of more active management of part of the river bank'.

One councillor wants to know exactly what the company will be doing on the river, how the process of collecting mooring fees will work and a more detailed breakdown of how much the work is worth.

Trip boats

Trip boat operators using the river have expressed concerns about the move for a private company to collect mooring fees, not knowing how they will stand.

It is not know what method will be used, though a system similar to that suggested by Mike Stone in narrowboatworld, has been muted, to better police the moorers on the river.
