Anglers locked out

WITH joy riders using a car park on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal as well as fly tipping, British Waterways had little option but to lock it.

But this has stopped anglers being able to park their vehicles, which is causing a furore as they say that British Waterways is refusing to unlock the gates for them to use, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Burnt-out cars

The car park that is situated near Dover Bridge at Abram on the waterway had been used for fly tipping as well as having burnt-out cars left and stolen cars driven into the water, that prompted the installation of a barrier, that of course prevented anglers using it.

What is so annoying however to anglers is that the Environment Agency is restocking the stretch of the canal with coarse fish after the water became blighted with pollution.

The anglers are threatening to challenge British Waterway's charity status, and using the Disabled Discrimination Act over the closure, as disabled people will be unable to carry all their equipment to the canalside.
