The cat came back

IT WAS whilst cruising the Trent & Mersey Canal in Stoke-on-Trent that boaters Stuart and Maureen Emery lost their cat Mac. But the cat did come back—after six years!

The pair searched the area for days, when Mac 'abandoned ship' but to no avail, even though they returned time after time there was no trace of him, until earlier this month he was found living wild in a derelict canal side building, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Sustain himself

Mac had managed to sustain himself for all those years by the side of the waterway, yet after six years he recognised his owner, leaping straight into his lap.

It was staff from the animal welfare charity Iris's Cats in Need who rescued him in February as the building was to be demolished, and he was  in a very sorry state.

Contact

Stuart had had the foresight to have him 'chipped' as a kitten, which meant the charity was eventually able to contact the owner who now moors his narrowboat on the River Great Ouse.

Mac is now back on the boat, with seemingly no intention of leaving again.
