Historic crane saved

THE historic crane that stood at Burbage Wharf on the Kennet & Avon Canal has now been replaced, and is back in place after three years restoration work.

Burbage Wharf has been the site of a crane for around 200 years, and so a new one has been erected on the site, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Replacement

It was 'opened' at a ceremony earlier this week, by David Bruce,  President of the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust,  replacing one built about 30 years ago.

It is understood that most of the steelworks, pulleys and winching handle were from the original crane.
