Chance to move stranded boats

IT WAS six weeks ago that we reported a stretch of the Kennet & Avon Canal was closed due to lack of water, but stranded boaters are being given the chance to move their boats.

Over 10 miles of the waterway was closed due to lack of water, with over 90 boats stranded after the lock gates were fastened up, with all boat movement stopped.

First week in January

Sue of No Problem, who is one of the boaters trapped tells us:

"I have had a phone call this morning from Mark Stevens, the Manager of the Kennet & Avon,  and he is going to arrange for us to move to Newbury the first week of January. Please pass on the news to any other boaters in the same position as us, so they too can get in contact with British Waterways to let them know they want to move."

Mark has stated that though there is not much water, they intend to open the closed section for limited navigation again on the 4th January, for the few that want to leave.
