Email: How it should be done

We hired our first Narrowboat in 1972 from High Line Yachting at Iver, they sent a young man with us to Cowley Lock, he explained steering the boat and how locks worked.

He then waited until we operated the lock by ourselves, only giving advice when essential. He then got his bike off the roof, and cycled back to Iver for his next customer. Hirers were let out at about 15 minute intervals, not all in one rush, and everyone was offered this service as part of the hire. It seems times may have changed.

The same young man came to deal with the couple of minor breakdowns we had, this time by van.

We all thought this was an excellent system.
