Rushing about

IT IS our Ralph Freeman who tells us there are many boaters in a 'blazing hurry' on the Trent & Mersey Canal at the moment.

Another thing he noticed is that there is a lot of rushing about at locks, so he has pulled into Aston Marina for a few days to do some painting and odd jobs to get away from it, as it is not his scene at all!

Take little notice

He relates that all too often people wind up paddles at locks but take little notice of what the boat is doing, remarking:

"Things can go wrong very quickly particularly when a lock is emptying, so folk need to be more vigilant and treat locks with the respect they deserve."

Very good advice, but alas at this time of year often ignored.
