Whilst it leaks away...

IT TAKES some believing but whilst the Oxford Canal is leaking away through lack of money, cash is to be found for a ridiculous project on the waterway.

The latest of its silly schemes are  spires erected in the canal just above Braunston, at an undisclosed cost.

Illuminated

Named Seven Spires, by  artist Steve Messam, it consists of seven red spires, each 4.5m tall, made of wood and fabric and illuminated at night, and spaced over half a mile.

And he tells us:

"Fortunately, British Waterways really liked the artwork, and was very positive about the idea of putting it in the canal, otherwise the project would never have happened."

Many boaters must surely think it is a great pity British Waterways wasn't 'very positive' about getting the Oxford Canal back in order, specially after the recent leaks and hold-ups.
