Died after jumping

A MAN jumped from a balcony on a building by the Ouse in York, and drowned.

People with the 21 years old man at the time told the police it was 'a moment of misplaced exuberance', Alan Tilbury tells us.

Presumed dead

The emergency services searched the river, but there was no sign of the man, though he was seen to be struggling in the water, so is now presumed dead.

Another man attempted a rescue, but the current forced him to give up.

A police spokesman warned that the Ouse is a particular dangerous stretch of water.
