Tackling cyclists

Perhaps the way to tackle the increasing lack of respect and obligation by cyclists is to pass legislation that requires them to have compulsory third party insurance, writes Kevin McNiff. This has substance in as much as golfers now have to take out such cover. Additionally it should be a criminal offence not to stop if an accident occurred.

Seriously injured

I know of several people who have been seriously injured by speeding cyclists in Oxford, and this year my wife was knocked over on the Stourbridge Arm towpath by an ejit with his kid on a seat on the way to school.

There is no way that their antics can be curbed as the police do not have such luxury, but if an accident resulted in the perpetrator getting a criminal record then it may act as a deterrent along with civil action by victims.

Email MP

I recently emailed this thought to my local MP who replied 'interesting idea'.  If other boaters were to email or write to their MP as well, it might raise the issue in the corridors of power.

By the way, I am a responsible cyclist who would be willing to take out such insurance.
