Timothy West backs volunteers

ACTOR and boater Timothy West, has joined British Waterways in its urge to get volunteers on the Kennet & Avon Canal.

Together with his wife, and fellow actress Prunella Scales, he has a narrowboat on the waterway, as well as being a supporter of the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust.

Volunteer lock keepers

He is following in the steps of British Waterways in its recent demand for volunteer lock keepers for the canal, explaining:

"The canal needs our help. Despite huge volunteer effort, lottery funding, and government funding, the present financial environment will place additional pressure on much-needed repair and maintenance requirements of the waterway."

He has written to people living near the waterway encouraging them to get involved.
