Thames to get cable car
Published: Monday, 31 January 2011
GREENWICH Council has approved the construction of a cable car across the Thames East of Tower Bridge.
This is to link the Olympic venue and connect Greenwich and the Royal Docks, and capable of carrying up to 2,500 passengers an hour, Alan Tilbury tells us.
Cut journey times
It will cut journey times between the O2 arena and the ExCel exhibition centre, both of which will host Olympic events.
The plans will now be put before the Greater London Authority for the proposed cable car, which was originally estimated at costing £25 millions but has now risen to £40 millions.
