THERE ARE CERTAINLY PROBLEMS GETTING of or on to the tidal Trent at Keadby.

Two problems in fact, Keith Gudgin reports.

Refuses in hot weather

There is Keadby rail bridge that refuses to operate in hot weather, so stopping navigation.

keadby2And now we are informed that following recent repair works to a decommissioned ground paddle chamber at Keadby Lock, the work has not been as successful as Canal & River Trust had originally hope.

Engineers continue to investigate the issue and are assessing a range of potential solutions to restore normal navigation as soon as possible.

[The picture shows our boat enrtering Keadby Lock off a slack tide.]

But restrictions remain in place allowing limited passage through the lock with the trust telling:

Restrictions

Craft requiring passage through Keadby Lock from the Trent MUST have a booking in place.   Passage from River Trent to Stainforth & Keadby Canal Designated arrival time slots will be provided, and skippers must plan their journey to arrive at Keadby Lock 1 hour before high water. Entry into the lock will only be possible for craft that have suitable power to push the incoming tide.

Which is not too encouraging.
