IT'S GOOD FRIDAY AND THE START of a new season.
Starting however with the Rochdale Canal closed, Keith Gudgin reports.
It has been discovered that the timber on Lock 76 is rotten, and the lock is no longer safe to operate.
Will move things forward
The trust is now working on the best way to carry out the repair and tells that hopefully it will move things forward as quickly as it can.
But this means the navigation is currently closed between Lock 81 and Lock 54 on the canal.
Already this year the Rochdale Canal has suffered many stoppages, with no less than eight closures caused by defective paddles.
