THE UNTREATED FOUL WASTE from a ruptured Severn Trent pipe is being cleaned-up.

This occurred on the 3rd March, Keith Gudgin reported.

The  flow from the pipe has been stopped and the various teams involved are working on a solution of repair.

The flow from the foul waste went into a field then over a canal bank into the navigation and spreading, it being some while until it was noticed.

Closed canal

It closed the Stourbridge Canal from its Top Lock to Wordsley Junction, with a warning issued for boaters not to move their boats or touch anything that had become in contact and to keep their animals away from the waste.

The clean-up is to continue over the weekend as efforts to improve water quality progress, this meaning that the ammonia levels within the canal are reducing, although monitoring will continue while recovery work remains underway.
