GLASSON BRANCH ON THE Lancaster Canal leading to Glasson Basin has reopened.
Lock 4 was closed due to a broken paddle, Keith Gudgin reminds us.
But the paddle was of a special make and had to be ordered, made, despatched then fitted, this being completed this week and the navigation again opened.
It was on the 5th January that the rotten paddle on the towpath side of the bottom gate failed, it making the lock inoperable.
We were informed then that with the paddle being of such a unique design there was no alternative but to order a new one, the trust then being at the mercy of the makers who needed such a long time to complete.
