My main gripe is that Canal & River Trust pump water from the Severn into the canal that is full of silt, writes Amy Dickerson.

They have been doing this for years. I don’t understand why the silt is not filtered out of the water before it enters the canal.

They are filtering the overflow water at Whitchurch after the canal breached. So why not here?

The original estimate for the work in Gloucester Docks was two months. We boaters have been locked out of the Docks for eight months.

Another example of how privatisation doesn’t work. Boats have been allowed into the basin today, but CRT have not notified boaters of this.

I moor in the basin for hospital & G.P. Appointments. I prefer to travel by boat than to drive.

There is a meeting on Thursday 5th February 2026, 6 to 8pm to discuss the situation with Gloucester Docks still not open to boats.  The meeting is at the Llanthony Secunda Priory, Gloucester. Admission is free but you need to obtain an online ticket.
