THERE WILL BE NO NAVIGATION of the the of the Forth & Clyde Canal between locks 3 and 16 until August.
That also includes the Falkirk Flight with it all rescheduled for August 2026.
Already six sets of lock gates have been replaced upstream and four sets of gates downstream, with the maintenance team having over-planked the upstream gates on several locks to extend their lifetimes.
Important step
Also installed was a new lock bypass beneath the busy Lock 16 bridge—an important step in ensuring safe and reliable water management along the canal in the years ahead, it is told.
A number of inspections have also been carried out whilst the canal was dewatered in 2025, to ascertain the condition of the canal bed and structure, it giving a view of areas that have not been seen for many years.
The result was that additional repairs were needed, thus meaning that the project had to be extended to August 2026 to guarantee the safety, quality and durability of the canal.
