SWARKESTONE LOCK 5 on the Trent & Mersey Canal had a problem with its towpath bottom gate.
That only allowed narrowboats to use this broad lock, Keith Gudgin reports.
But after further inspection it was decided to fully close Swarkestone Lock as its condition means the lock is not safe to operate.
Exploring options
The trust tells that it is exploring options for a repair and will advise when there is further information.
Swarkestone Lock is one of the broad locks between Sawley and Stenson, known by boaters as the Terrible Six.
Under the circumstances there is no intimation when the repair will be undertaken or completed.
