Unexploded bomb discovered in the Trent
AN UNEXPLODED bomb has been discovered in the Trent.
This is not in the navigational part of the river, but where the river runs alongside the Trent & Mersey Canal, Janet Friend reports.
It was at Walton-on-Trent where the bomb was 'fished-out' by people dragging the river for items yesterday, Wednesday, but they managed more than they expected!
Find their own way
However the A38 near where the bomb was discovered was immediately closed to all traffic, that will have to find its own way around the bridge as a diversion has not been put in place.
A cordon has been put in place around the area as police wait for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit from the Army to arrive.
LATEST: The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit from the Army found the bomb to be empty, with the road opened yesterday, 12th December.
