Stuck behind stoppages

I HAVE been an avid reader of your columns for the last twelve years since first acquiring our narrowboat, writes John Partridge.

Very happy times

And we have had some very happy times with it but the last couple of years to put it bluntly, have been fraught. Let me explain.  My wife and myself both work but manage to arrange a two weeks and a longer three weeks holiday a year in our boat, in addition to short occasional trips, but our work is fairly important and we cannot afford to extend these times.

For the past two years we have been stuck four times by stoppages, once for four days whilst the so-called contractors messed about rehanging a lock gate, meaning that three out of four we have been unable to fulfil our work contract.

Alas no more

So it is with regret that we must add to what must now be a very long list of owners who have given up what was once a very rewarding and happy pastime, but alas, no more.

[Thank you for you very kind words, but we do not publish self congratulations—Editor.]
