More hydro electric power

ANOTHER hydro electric power plant has been opened on the Ouse above York.

This new plant is by Linton Lock, and comes complete with a  five metres wide screw—believed to be the widest in the world, Alan Tilbury reports.

Fish pass

It is expected to produce about 1,870MWh of electricity each year, and includes a fish pass that will allow salmon and other migratory fish, including trout and eels, to bypass a weir that blocked the way to their spawning grounds.

It was officially opened last week by Fisheries Minister Robert Goodwill, who thanked partners for their work on contributing to the recovery of salmon stocks.
