Rochdale Nine drained

Published: Friday, 23 November 2018

MOST of the locks on the Rochdale Nine in Manchester have been drained.

On Thursday morning all the locks between 83 and 92, had their paddles opened with the waterway drained, preventing navigation, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Very little water left

The paddles had been opened from the bottom lock at Castlefield up to Brownsfield, with very little water left in the canal.

This time vandals have been blamed by Canal & River Trust whose workers are busy letting water down to fill the canal.  It is expected that the flight will re-open around noon today.
