Now it's the Anderton Boat Lift that is closed

THE Canal & River Trust must by now realise that its system of minimum maintenance is not working with now the Anderton Boat Lift broken and closed.

Day after day narrowboatworld reports closures of one canal or another, or even the same waterway time after time having failures and needing teams to rush out to get the waterway open again, which surely proves that CaRT's maintenance is not up to standard.

Stranded

Today, Thursday 28th May, Keith Gudgin tells us that it is the Anderton Boat Lift that is no longer working, leaving boats either stranded on the Weaver or the Trent & Mersey Canal.

All we can learn that it is closed until further notice owing to structural failure, but an alarming statement is that no further booking can be accepted.

In our 20 years of boating we have never known such a degree of closures at the start of the boating season, when, if the required amount of money had been spent on maintenance, the infrastructure would have been in good condition.
