'Angry Boater' on tour

Published: Friday, 15 May 2015

AFTER his successes with his Angry Boater events in the capital, Joel Sanders is bringing it out of London and touring the waterways giving performances in the places he passes through.

Final performance

His final London event is in conjunction with Canal & River Trust. The final London performance of ‘Angry Boater' will be a fundraising event for ‘Stratford 2 Stratford'—a project supporting underprivileged young people in Newham through boating and the arts.

This fundraising show will take place at 8pm on Thursday, 28th May at The Barge House, Haggerston, East London. All profits from the ticket revenue will be donated to the project. Tickets, priced £12, are available from:

Comedy show

'Angry Boater' is an autobiographical comedy show by comedian and boater, Joel Sanders, who told narrowboatworld:

"The show is about what it's really like trying to survive on London's canals with high blood pressure and no practical skills. If you think boating is all about peace, tranquillity and the good life, prepare to be disillusioned. You won't see their fins but the inland waterways are still home to a few sharks."

Grand Union Canal

Following this final London show, Joel will be taking his narrowboat up the Grand Union Canal, setting up shows wherever he stops. In the spirit of PT Barnum, 'Angry Boater' is about to come out of the metropolis and move into the villages and small towns of England, adding:

"From July onwards I'll be setting up impromptu shows wherever I moor—So everything will be confirmed as I go along. It's an experiment in old school entertainment (what the circuses used to do).

"The plan is to moor up in small towns and villages, find a venue to do the show later that week, spend a few days promoting it and inviting talented local boaters and residents to do a short set in the first half. After the show, I move on and repeat. It's what PT Barnum used to do—with a boaty twist."
