Cheap way of life

KEITH Gudgin is expecting flak as a result of his article 'Not too much to ask', and it is highly likely that flak will indeed be thrown in his direction from the continuous moorers he so accurately described, as they no doubt see their selfish and arrogant 'cheap' way of life under threat, writes Terry Ollerton.

I believe Keith in his article has managed to sum up the thoughts of the majority of genuine boaters and he should be applauded for daring to oppose continuous moorers who blight the canals all around the network.

Simply bought a mooring

Would be so nice if any boater who needed to stay in one area for schools, work etc. just simply bought a mooring for the purpose. Unfortunately this won't happen without force as the illegal continuous moorer has 'got away' with it for so long under British Waterways that he/she now believes they have a right to occupy any space on the towpath long term for free.

Hopefully this time next year CaRT's initiative to rid the system of free loading non cruisers will be starting to bear fruit thereby allowing genuine continuous cruisers the space to temporarily moor without obstruction, as they explore the network.
