Celebrations at Gloucester Museum

THE Gloucester Waterways Museum is recognising British Science Week with its own celebration of science and engineering within the museum and on the canal and river network.

 

The Canal & River Trust Explorer Team will be at the museum from 10.30am till 1pm running the very popular jet propulsion workshop this coming Saturday 14th of March.

Demonstrating

The Friends of Gloucester Waterways Museum craft group will be on site demonstrating traditional crafts and rope making, and there will be a walk around the docks area with a crane trail for the children.

From 11am till 3pm the steam crane will be in action with the fielding engine open to the public. On both Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th at 11am there will be a talk on science and engineering.

City Farm

Children and their parents can meet the animals on Saturday 28th March to 12th April at St James City Farm and on Wednesday 1st April from 10.30am - 4.30pm there will be chickens, rabbits and lambs for all the family to meet. At 1pm there will be the annual Easter bonnet competition.

If you would like to enter get your Easter crafts at the ready and bring your finished bonnet to the museum for a chance to win a prize.

From Saturday 28th March until Sunday 12th April there will be daily Easter themed crafts and a spot the bunny trail. On Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th April there is a small Easter tea room.

Canal Mania

Canal Mania and Sea Fever Shanty Celebration will take place on Saturday 18th April—a celebration of music and verse local to the rivers and canals.

The Friends of Gloucester Waterways Museum will also be joining in, demonstrating the traditional crafts of the waterways.

From 7.45pm till 10.30pm the museum will be hosting a special evening performance on its pleasure boat King Arthur from Heather Wastie and the Shanty group 'Keepers Lock'. The performance will be static on the quayside and will include a selection of cheese and biscuits to enjoy. There is also a licensed bar on board.
