The end of continuous cruising?

IT SEEMS to me as if the cat is now, at least partially, out of the bag. CaRT intend to do away with continuous cruising by fair means or foul, writes Martin Brooks.

I believe that the reason for this is to raise more money, firstly for itself, and secondly for the marina owners who were mis-sold their businesses!

Less maintenance

Also, less continuous cruisers means less overall use of the system, meaning less maintenance.

I think that all it really want is all boats in marinas, cruising a couple of miles twice a year! What they will end up with is no boats at all, and I wonder if it even sees this as a problem?

Push ahead

CaRT is going to push ahead with this because it feels that we do not have the legal muscle, money or organisation to stop it.

I fear it might be right, as nobody seems to want to get organised and form a united opposition. Relying on the current boating groups will not do, as they are all opposed to one and other, with the IWA actually taking CaRT's side more often than not.

If we don't organise now, I see the end to boating as we know it coming in three or four years time.
