While I am not given to supporting racing on towpaths I am in favour of gentle family and social cycling in exchange for monies from government etc to maintain and improve towpaths.

I think that the improvers of towpaths need to recognise the racing issue and include either local legislation in respect of speed limits and/or physical restrictions when works are being designed, and it is up to the canal community to raise this issue with all new plans and consultations, quoting that much revered phrase Health and Safety.
