Lorry takes off bridge parapet

A LORRY has taken off the parapet of a bridge on the Bridgewater Canal, ignoring restriction signs.

Walton Bridge near Walton Arms at Warrington has had one parapet virtually demolished by the lorry which, though stuck on the bridge, kept going even after destroying the parapet leading to the structure.

Ignored

The vehicle was carrying a load of bricks over the narrow bridge over the canal, having ignored both the width and weight restriction signs.

Owing to the restricted width of the bridge, lorries become trapped, but whereas some reverse out, though this is a problem owing to the width of the road, but this particular driver kept going, destroying most of the parapet.

Sat-navs

At a meeting discussing the problem, it was revealed that sat-navs show drivers the way over the bridge, but give no restrictions. People want better signs with some wanting the road closed to goods vehicles, quoting the death of a cyclist and the narrow winding road.
