One council thwarts another

THE new powers introduced by Kingston Council to move illegally moored boats moored against its public land from the Thames, has alas come to nought after another council failed to follow suit.

The move was hailed as a success as the new powers by Kingston Council enabled it to move the illegally moored boats, with the number quickly reduced from 31 to just six (Councils moving illegally moored boats) Roger Fox revealed.

Another authority

But Roger now tells us that after walking from Kingston to Teddington Lock yesterday (Sunday) to check the real position, the boats have simply moved to another authority's public land at Richmond closer to Teddington Lock.

With well over 30 boats now moored at Richmond, it is obvious that those that were towed away from the their moorings by Kington public land have all now simply moved on to Richmond, whose council obviously do not have the same powers as Kingston.

As Roger remarks, it really is a pity that the two councils do not co-ordinate their actions.
