Why a winter works stoppage?

Published: Saturday, 18 November 2023

THERE was a winter works stoppage on the Montgomery Canal that did not require a stoppage.

Such a stoppage was scheduled for Sluice 18 on the waterway to carry out some brickwork repairs to stop leakage, Keith Gudgin reports.

But now it has been decided this winter works stoppage at Welshpool does not need a closure of the waterway.

Remains open

Canal & River Trust tell that these works will still take place but with no disruption to boating customers. This means the navigation will be open as normal at Sluice 18, Welshpool.

So a matter of a winter stoppage that wasn't!  Meaning another stoppage from that long list now cancelled.
