Worcester & Birmingham Canal suffers landslide

 THE Worcester & Birmingham Canal has suffered a landslide caused by Storm Babet.

For It has been discovered the amount of debris in the canal at Shortwood Tunnel West Portal is worse than first thought, Keith Gudgin reports.

Beginning works on the site

Canal & River Trust state that its 'teams are beginning works to access the site and properly assess the material using specialist contractors and will know more following these initial works'.

But it could take a while to have the navigation and towpath reopened.

The storm with its prodigious amount of rain washed the bank down into the canal by the tunnel, closing both the navigation and the towpath.
