Never too old to learn

WHEN Canal & River Trust Bantam tug Will Scarlett was recently called upon to push a hopper from its mooring at Holme Lock on the Trent to its mooring at Barton-in-Fabis, its helmsman Will, experienced though he is, didn't realise he was to receive an unexpected lesson in time saving from Tony Dunkley, writes Pam Pickett.

The accompanying photograph shows Will in Meadow Lane lock observing (minus the expletive!) that he'd have never thought it possible to fit both tug and hopper into the same lock!

Do it in one

For Tony Dunkley however, given his long time previous experience of freight carrying on our waterways time was money, and as Tony observes, why waste time locking two boats, when you can do the job in one!
