Email: Should not take the blame

Published: Thursday, 24 April 2014

It has to be with sorrow that I follow my email to you about the death on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal with comments about yet another death.

Your item about the young boy who met his death whilst attempting to balance across a pipe over the canal, but alas did not make it but fell into the water, further emphasises the dangers associated with the waterways, but again I hope that Canal & River Trust somehow do not have to take the blame.

During my many years of boating I have attempted to advise both young and older people, who should have had more sense, of the perils of what they are doing, and have sometimes been listened to, but more often than not ignored.

The young boy attempted something that was most silly and dangerous, but alas paid the ultimate price. We can only hope it acts as a warning to others.
